and now the Feds...

"Feds indict 5 in pension case " from the Union Tribune -

A federal grand jury indicted the former top executive of the San Diego pension system, its lawyer and three former trustees on conspiracy and fraud charges yesterday in the opening salvo in the federal government's latest corruption probe at City Hall.

or from the Voice of San Diego -

Pre-trial hearings in the district attorney's corruption case against six former retirement trustees resume Monday, three days after the grand jury handed down criminal fraud charges related to the same controversial pension deal that sent the city of San Diego into unprecedented political and financial chaos.

The Union Tribune

Is it just me or does the Union Tribune sometimes read like a political hit peice..

from the Union Tribune -

Jan. 8 (UNION-TRIBUNE)
Family (plus Metallica and poker) helped Zucchet cope with scandal: A couple of weeks after a jury found Michael Zucchet guilty of corruption, the former San Diego city councilman decided to blow off some steam by playing poker at the Barona casino.

Duke and a wire

From TIME -

Sources familiar with the situation say Cunningham, a California Republican who pleaded guilty Nov. 28 to taking $2.4 million in bribes — including a yacht, a Rolls Royce and a 19th Century Louis-Philippe commode — from a defense contractor, wore a wire at some point during the short interval between the moment he began cooperating with the feds and the announcement of his guilty plea on Nov. 28....

Someone is going to be in trouble...

Fundraising in the 2nd

From the Union-Tribune:

... The fundraising leader continued to be former public relations executive Kevin Faulconer. The Republican brought in $170,500 between Nov. 27 and Dec. 24, pushing his campaign total to more than $400,000.

His opponent, environmental attorney Lorena Gonzalez, also chalked up her best period, raising nearly $41,000. The Democrat still trails in the money race, however, with a total war chest of $108,000.

And probably you already guessed, but it is the Developers and the Unions supplying the money. Not a big surprise.
